Archery Bullseyes, Complete Freezers: Victory VAP TKO Arrow Review

Victory Archery is the undisputed carbon arrow expert. Its VAP TKO line is as good as it gets for micro-diameter carbon arrows.
If you are one of the many bow hunters now opting for micro-diameter The arrow trees, you have Victory Archery thank. Victory was the first company to market micro-diameter carbon arrows, and did so with their original VAP. This needle-shaped arrow continues to stand the test of time.
Since then, Victory has released several lines of micro-diameter carbon arrows. And the one that seems to be appearing in more and more quivers across the country is his VAP TKO. Victory describes this arrow as “the ultimate long-range hunting arrow.”
In short: The Victory VAP TKO sits at the top of the food chain among the finest micro-diameter carbon arrows ever made. For anyone in the market looking for a “one and done” arrow type that can do it all, the VAP TKO is worth a look.
Victory VAP TKO Arrow Review
Victory VAP TKO Arrow Overview
Constructed from 100% high modulus carbon fiber, the VAP TKO was designed for maximum speed and penetration. Being the micro-diameter arrow that it is, it also produces less wind deflection in flight.
You can choose between three different grades in terms of straightness: Sport (±0.006″), Gamer (±0.003″) and Elite (±0.001″).
All arrows are 100% hand fletched with Blazer blades and include both a Shok TL aluminum insert (50gr) as well as an IP 0.166 nock (8gr). The VAP TKO is offered in spine options of 300, 350 and 400.
Each dozen is also matched by weight with a deviation of only ±0.5g. The result is more precision and consistency downstream. It’s a killer front-to-back setup.
Features
Reliability and functionality are the results of this proven recipe for great functionality. Here are a few things that separate the Victory VAP TKO from the rest.
MAXXKE Technology
As we have seen, the VAP TKO is a 100% carbon arrow shaft, like many other arrows. The difference is its MAXXKE technology, which is the way carbon is woven together.
This weave has a direct effect on how the arrow reacts in flight. Advanced 3K carbon weave results in less torque, faster recovery in flight and ultimately tighter groups.
Back aligned
Another notable feature you will find on the VAP TKO is that they are all digitally aligned. This feature is unanimous in most arrows produced by Victory.
This means that the stiffer side of the arrow is marked. Knowing this location and being able to line up your vanes and nock at the same point on each arrow provides greater consistency from shot to shot.
This equates to increased accuracy every time. It’s a simple feature with big results.
ICE nanoceramic coating
If you’ve ever had trouble removing arrows from targets, you’ll appreciate this next feature. Victory uses an ICE Nano Ceramic coating to lend a helping hand when needed.
This coating gives a much smoother surface than most carbon arrow shafts, which has a direct effect on how easily the arrows can be removed from a target and even aids in better penetration on animals. .
My Experience with the Victory VAP TKO Arrow
As an avid bowhunter, I’m always looking for every possible way to make my setup more efficient, more forgiving, and more efficient. This is why the Victory VAP TKO will always hold a special place in my heart. It answers all of the above.
The VAP TKO was the first micro-diameter arrow I tried at the time, and I immediately noticed that my bands were getting smaller compared to what I had been using before.
The smaller surface just seemed to cut through the air and resist the wind better. Plain and simple, I was more specific.
Then there’s shooting arrows. Whenever a friend shot arrows for me, I always got comments about how easier the VAP TKO was to shoot than the others.
On the bow hunting side, unless I hit a shoulder blade, those arrows would still go through animals. Years ago I did a penetration test between the VAP TKO and several other high end arrows on the market, and the VAP won every time.
Along with the precision, it was the ultimate selling point for me. It’s an arrow that doesn’t weigh a ton but still has excellent penetration for better bowhunting. The VAP TKO is the best of all worlds.
What’s wrong with the Victory VAP TKO arrow
Now, I’m really reaching here though because I’m a big fan of this arrow, but there’s nothing going.
Sustainability
For the most part, this is a pretty durable arrow, but it’s definitely not the most durable. Several times I have had these broken arrows on me. One time I actually fell walking to my truck and landed on some of the arrows. Out of seven, two cracked.
Other times, if I missed a target or an animal, they would break more often than the others. And on rare occasions, I had a broken arrow inside an animal.
I’m not a guy who reuses arrows after filling out a tag for me, but it’s such a shame when they break other stuff.
Insert
Finally, from time to time I have had problems with the inserts that Victory uses on these arrows. They were durable, but sometimes they twisted on me or started to come out.
I really noticed this when shooting arrows at a dense target. I’m not sure if it’s the design of the insert that’s causing the problem, or if there’s something wrong with the arrow relative to the insert. Nevertheless, it happens. Rarely, but it does happen.
Arrows Victory VAP TKO: Closing
Bowhunting is a game of thumbs. A series of things must all go well to be successful. If any of those things are off, you’re out of the game.
The Victory VAP TKO has “been there, done this” time and time again, and it’s not stopping anytime soon. It’s a freezer filler mofo that hits the bullseye.
It’s an arrow you can bank on and, without a doubt, a “win” for bowhunters from afar.
