‘Average Jack Archery’ shop targets Philipsburg

CENTER COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — With nearly 8,000,000 views and 50,000 subscribers on YouTube, Nathan Sellers has helped people around the world learn about archery through his ‘Average Jack Archery’ channel. Now he has a new goal in Philipsburg and plans to open an archery pro shop on North Front Street.
“Archery has been a part of my life since I was a kid,” said Sellers, a third-generation competitive archer.
Sellers said he knew the sport had an opportunity to soar in Philipsburg.
“It’s one of those towns that definitely could use revitalization,” Sellers said. “I love providing this opportunity to anyone who travels but also lives in the area.”
The pro shop will be 3,000 square feet over two floors. The first floor will include detail and bow repairs and the lower floor will include a 20-yard indoor shooting range.
“It will be open year-round for people to come try out new equipment, organize leagues, practice and enjoy the sport of archery,” Sellers said.
Being so close to the Pennsylvania Wilds, the Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation said it hits the mark.
“Having a store like this is really important because it will bring traffic to downtown Philipsburg and it also fits in well with a lot of people here culturally who love sports, hunting and archery. “said Eric Rusnak, president of the Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation.
There is a fundraising effort to make this dream a reality.
“I really need your help,” Sellers said in a YouTube video announcing the store. “In fact, if you felt that I helped you, I would like to ask you to reciprocate.”
A GoFundMe has been created with a goal of $30,000 and the hope that the store will help launch more archers in central Pennsylvania.
Sellers are also accepting donations via Venmo (BUSINESS search for @averagejackarchery) and PayPal (paypal.me/NSellers541 or [email protected]).
If all goes according to plan, sellers said they hope to open by July 1, 2022, in time for Philipsburg Heritage Days.
