First time since 2017 for Cal in historic race

BERKELEY – Twenty-eight members of the California men’s rowing team will travel to the United Kingdom next week to compete in the annual Henley Royal Regatta. The Bears will send four boats to the six-day event taking place in Henley-on-Thames, England.

All races will be broadcast livewith results and information also available by following @HenleyRegatta on Twitter.

“After a successful 2022 season, capped by the Varsity 8+ winning the National Championship, we are delighted to invite a great group to compete in the Henley Royal Regatta,” said the Head Coach. Scott Frandsen. “Our internal standard is that crews that win the Pac12 championship have earned the right to go, so we take the Varsity 8+ to race in the Ladies Plate event, the JV 8+ to race in two 4+s at Prince Albert, and the Freshman 8+ to compete in the Temple Cup. The guys are all excited to be heading to Henley and enjoying the unique spectacle the regatta has to offer; we’ll be immersing ourselves in British rowing culture for a weekend and enjoy it…and then we’ll be heading back to California! I’m really proud of how all of our crews have raced all year and what they’ve accomplished; this trip will be a continuation of that success .”

The Henley Regatta was first held in 1839 and has been held every year since, with the exception of years affected by both World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic.
