Kayaking, archery instruction available – Lake County Record-Bee

LAKE COUNTY – The Lake County Sheriff’s Activities League hosts kayaking and archery events for youth in the county.

The first is a Tuesday kayaking event starting at 9 a.m. at Highland Springs Dam near Lakeport. Families can kayak together or students can hang out with one of the volunteers. You must be at least 10 years old and able to swim. All equipment is provided along with basic instruction.

To register and reserve your kayak, call Mary Borjon at (707) 279-1050. Text messages are not accepted.

All participants must have completed and signed a release/waiver form, which can be found at lakecountysal.com

On August 6, archery lessons will be presented by the Lake County Sheriff’s Activities League in conjunction with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Young people between the ages of 8 and 18 are eligible. 17 and 18 year olds must still be in high school. All materials are provided and participation is free. Parents of children aged 8 to 12 are asked to stay on site during lessons.

Instruction takes place at the Highland Springs Reservoir Range from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A hot dog meal follows.

To register, call Terry Norton at (707) 263-0454. You will need to provide your child’s name(s), age and contact details.

Each participant must bring a completed and signed release and waiver form to the event. If you’ve already completed one in 2022 for another Sheriff’s Activities League event, let Norton know. The release/waiver form can be found at lakecountysal.com (click on programs and look for the blue button).

If you register your child for this activity but cannot attend the event, please call Norton at (707) 263-0454.

The weather will likely be hot, so wear cool, comfortable clothes, closed shoes for safety, a hat, sunscreen, and bring your own water. Other requirements are patience and a willingness to learn and shoot safely.
