Local Archery Programs Participate in National Championships – The Madison Record

LOUISVILLE, KY.- After a spectacular shooting season in 2022 during the regular campaign, several local teams, part of the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP), have qualified and competed in the Eastern National Tournament. of the United States held in Louisville, Ky. Teams representing James Clemens High, Liberty Middle School and Mill Creek Elementary completed the 290 mile and four and a half hour walk on Interstate 65 to Derby City.

“It was a great experience because most of these youngsters have never experienced anything like this because most expected a small venue like the ones we attended before the nationals,” said Jennifer Klein, coach in leader of the Mill Creek archery team. “The venue had 500 archers shooting at the same time and for many archers it was nerve wracking but they settled in quickly and did an amazing job of where they finished.”

Held at the Kentucky Exposition Center, the Eastern Nationals was a three-day event featuring teams representing schools from every state east of the Mississippi River.

Klein, who helped run the local program in Madison, added, “All of our archers from high school through elementary soaked up the Kentucky environment. It was a great experience for everyone. Archery has been a blessing for many of our archers, especially those who are not your usual athletes.
