NTPC to donate Rs. 115 Cr for archery development

With the support of NTPC, Indian archers participate in all international tournaments like Asian championships, world cups, circuit championships.

New Delhi: NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated energy company, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Sports Development Funds (NSDF) and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) to the development of archery in India.

RK Singh, Minister of Energy and New and Renewable Energy, along with Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Youth and Sports and Information and Broadcasting, were present at the historic signing ceremony of the protocol Okay. Gurdeep Singh, CMD, DK Patel, Director (HR) NTPC and senior officials attended the occasion. NTPC supports the sport of archery in partnership with Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and archery.
Association of India (AAI) with the aim of providing world-class facilities with international exposure and platform to the talented pool of Indian archers.

Commitment for Rs. 115 Crores

As part of its CSR initiative, NTPC has pledged Rs. 115 Crore in 5 years for the development of archery sports. Out of a total of 115 Crore, Rs. 15 crore will be incurred as a one-time expense for preparing the field targets, setting up training centers and equipment like bow and arrow.

Rs. 20 crores for each year

Additional remaining Rs. 100 crore will be incurred as 5 year recurrent expenditure (Rs 20 crore per year) for the development of archery from grassroots level, training of identified talents, training of elite talents, development of high-performing coaches, purchase of FOP equipment, compatible sport and science development lab for archery, scholarships/prize money for top performers, advanced training/competitive exposure/training at abroad and exposure to archers under-jr./jr. recurve and compound archers, including para archers, etc.

Support for the Olympic Games in 2024

The NTPC already supports archery through an existing MoU. NTPC has been supporting archery sports at the national and international level since 2018. The agreement has extended until the next Olympics in 2024. NTPC extends its support to the organization of all archery national championships. the bow for the Sub-Jr., Jr. and Sr. categories for both men. and women’s groups, National Archery Ranking Tournaments (NRAT), training facilities, equipment, play kits, among others.

With the support of NTPC, Indian archers participate in all international tournaments like Asian Championships, World Cups, Circuit Championships, and perform well in all international tournaments and bring laurels to India in winning medals at world level.

Medals for the country

The archers won many international medals during this period and had great results at the Tokyo Olympics and reached the quarter-finals, considered India’s best performance in archery so far. day. Indian archers put on an exemplary performance at the Tokyo-2021 Paralympic Games where Harvinder Singh won the bronze medal. In 2021, India was honored with 2 world records and Indian archers won a total of 49 international medals (20 gold, 20 silver and 9 bronze) in all major international tournaments including the Paralympic Games.

CSR is a commitment beyond compliance at NTPC

NTPC’s CSR portfolio covers all facets of development aspects encompassing equity and inclusiveness as core principles of CSR execution. NTPC management believes that CSR is a commitment that goes beyond compliance. In recognition of its efforts to improve lives, NTPC has received numerous awards and accolades at various forums.

CSR is synonymous with NTPC’s core business, power generation. The Society’s spirit of caring and sharing is anchored in its mission statement. NTPC has consistently spent more than 2% of its average company net profit as mandated by the Indian government to
improvement of society.


The priority areas of NTPC’s CSR activities are health, sanitation, drinking water and education. However, the company also undertakes activities in the areas of youth capacity building, women empowerment, social infrastructure development, livelihood creation through support to the implementation of innovative development of agriculture and livestock, support for people with physical disabilities (PCP) and activities contributing to environmental sustainability.

NTPC’s CSR efforts are focused in close proximity to its stations where the Company’s operations are located, ensuring that the majority of CSR funds are spent on activities that meet the needs of the local community. However, in view of inclusive growth and environmental sustainability, some of the activities are also undertaken in different parts of the country to complement government efforts.

During the year, about 450 villages and more than 400 schools benefited from the NTPC and various CSR initiatives in different locations. The NTPC and CSR initiatives have touched the lives of about 14 lakhs of people generally residing in remote locations in various parts of the country in one way or another.

Rs. 410 crore to PM’s CARE fund

During the Covid-19 pandemic, NTPC contributed around Rs. 410 crore to the PM’s CARE fund and also set up Covid care facilities for the communities. Support was also extended to the district/state administration for ambulances, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, PPE kits for medical professionals, disinfectants, surgical/face masks, infrared thermometers, etc. for local communities.

The NTPC has also been a leader in increasing health infrastructure in different public hospitals. He has provided support to reputed hospitals like AIIMS Patna, Bhubaneswar, King George Lucknow Hospital to establish burn units and other infrastructure.

As part of its flagship program named Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), many girls benefit from their holistic development. To date, the GEM initiative has helped prepare and encourage 5,000 girls in multiple locations to achieve their dreams. The program created an aspiration among the little ones
schoolgirls to dream big and reach greater heights.

Key area of ​​CSR

NTPC has extended its CSR initiatives to cater to different focus areas such as livelihood generation, skills development, education, agriculture and livestock, water and sanitation, etc. . The municipal solid waste treatment plant in Karsada, Varanasi is one of the best examples of environmental sustainability.

The project also proved NTPC’s mantle in project management. Due to this intervention, Varanasi ranked 27th in 2020 under the ‘Swachh Sarvekshan Rankings’ conducted by Ministry of Urban Development, Government. from India. The city has also been ranked as the cleanest city along the Ganges.

Skill development

In a bid to develop the skills of Indian youths, the NTPC has also embarked on a skills development program for young people, especially the youths of Leh region, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and NSDF to make them self-sufficient, supporting Government of India’s (GoI) Skill India Mission. The NTPC is also supporting the Indian government’s initiative to modernize the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to improve the quality
of skilled labour.

In addition, NTPC has also extended its CSR support to Uttarakhand to undertake the reconstruction and restoration of public schools and health centers that were devastated by an unexpected natural calamity that the state recently faced.
