The stage is set for the Dubai 2022 Paralympic World Championships (February 22-27), with Paralympic and world champions among the 223 para-archers from 40 nations who will return to action next week.

Hosts United Arab Emirates will be pinning their hopes on compound men’s archers Mohammed Alshehhi, Gholam Khorsheed and Habib Albaloushi to produce improved performances.
“It will be one of the biggest events for archers in the UAE and participating in a World Championship on home soil will surely boost their confidence. Our archers are looking to perform well, learn and prepare for the season in come,” said coach Rao Berenjian, who coaches Alshehhi and Khorsheed at Dubai Club.
The Russian Federation, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and Iran will be among the top nations at the championships, with Russia expected to arrive here with the largest delegation of 28.
Paralympic and World medalists David Drahonínský of the Czech Republic and Bahattin Hekimoğlu of Turkey (compound men-W1), Iranian Rahimi Gholamreza and India Harvinder Singh (recurve men), Jessica Stretton (compound women) and Elisabetta Mijno (recurve women) are among those to watch during the week.
Dubai has set a benchmark
Speaking at the press conference, Championships Director Majid Rashed said: “Dubai has been setting benchmarks of late by hosting several World Cups, as part of the Fazza Championships, amid difficult times. of the pandemic. And this time too, we are confident of organizing a successful competition with all the precautionary measures.

Chairman of the local organizing committee for the Dubai 2022 championships, Thani Juma Berregad, said he was confident that Dubai was ready to host the world championships in a few days.
“We are very proud that Dubai is about to reach another milestone with the successful hosting of these championships. Archery is a relatively new sport in the country and the success of this event will surely further develop the sport. in the country,” said Juma Berregad.

The championships, which have been postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic, will open with the qualifying round on February 22.
