Turkish archery enters UNESCO list
In joint work with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and the Archery Association, Turkish traditional archery has been included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, has reported the daily Milliyet.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations aimed at promoting peace and security in the world through international cooperation in the fields of education , arts, science and culture.
According to the report released on July 11, the event is Türkiye’s 11th asset to enter the list and the first in the world based on archery.
“We are happy to be a non-governmental organization represented on the UNESCO list,” the Archery Association said in a statement.
“Perpetuating this tradition is one of the main missions of the association,” he added.
Türkiye has applied to UNESCO for Turkish Traditional Archery to be on the list in 2019.
Over time, Archery Research Institute and its works, traditional archery dissemination strategies, competitions, workshops and all academic research on the event were presented to UNESCO officials.
UNESCO held its 9th plenary session for the Intangible Cultural Heritage List in Paris, France, from July 5-7.
At the end of the meeting, the world body announced the entry of the Turkish event in the list.
