Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will begin operating electric abra (traditional boat) tourist services for visitors to the Global Village from October 25, alongside the start of the 27th season of Dubai. ‘attraction.

Mohammed Abu Bakr Al Hashemi, Director of Shipping, Public Transport Agency, RTA, said: “RTA is always eager to run the electric abra service with the start of the global village season every year, all the more that the abras proved extremely popular among visitors. . By offering users the possibility of boarding a means of transport powered by renewable energies, we intend to generate a positive experience that will contribute to the growth of the number of tourists in the Global Village. The positive response is evident from the huge attendance of residents and visitors.

He added: “We have approved a plan to operate two electric abras to serve Global Village guests this season. The service has proven extremely popular among visitors over the past few seasons. Every year, the Global Village plays a vital role in enhancing Dubai’s tourism during the winter season. RTA is committed to increasing the number of tourists by operating a wide range of public transport services, including sea transport represented by abras, Dubai Ferry, Water Bus and Water Taxi.

Maritime transport

Means of maritime transport are part of the basic services of RTA. They are particularly attractive to tourists, as cyclists experience the city’s scenic views and iconic landmarks on their trips to Dubai.

All amenities are available on board and safety and security measures are in place. They also have spaces dedicated to determined people as well as spaces for bicycles and scooters to facilitate integration between the different means of transport and promote soft mobility.
