War Thunder adds flamethrower tanks, new boats and more
Gaijin Entertainment announces that the Fire and Ice update for online military action War Thunder is already available for players. It adds branches of Finnish air and ground vehicles (including the famous BT-42 tank), dozens of other tanks, ships and aircraft like the modern American M1A2 SEP main battle tank with the TUSK kit, the legendary Japanese battleship Fuso , the latest Russian anti -aircraft gun 2S38 “Derivatsia-PVO”, as well as two new maps – “Arctic” and “Rocky Canyon”.
The first flamethrower-equipped tanks and boats are also making their debut in the game. Finally, aircraft fuselages will now feature realistic volumetric holes in addition to local smoke and fire effects, and hitting water will now produce a new reworked splatter effect.
Watch the update trailer below:
The British Churchill Crocodile is one of the most famous flamethrower tanks in history. It is built on the design of the Mk.VII version with a 75mm gun and excellent protection, but also equipped with a flamethrower, which is powered by a fuel trailer attached behind the tank. Thanks to this trailer, the Churchill Crocodile has the highest number of fire mixing charges among tanks, and is also the longest tank in the game. The American flamethrower boat “Zippo”, created during the Vietnam War on the design of the LCM landing craft (6), also makes its debut in the game. Flamethrowers, located on the sides of the bow, will be an excellent tool in close-range battles. Spectacular jungle fires can also be started by the US carrier-based A-1H Skyraider attack aircraft that has napalm bombs in its arsenal. These three vehicle models are available with the release of the Fire and Ice update as prizes for the new Battle Pass season.
Flamethrower tanks are effective in roughly the same situations as the napalm bombardments featured in the game earlier. The flame will not harm the crew of a heavily armored vehicle, but light vehicles are extremely vulnerable to it: the fire mixture will instantly destroy the crew in the open cabin and set equipment on fire. Tank mounts fire long jets of pressurized fire in a cantilevered trajectory, and they can reach the enemy even from behind small cover. Also, the wheel covers of land vehicles are now ignited with napalm, so after driving through a hot puddle, the player’s tank will look very hellish.
The battleship Fuso entered service with the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1915, was extensively modernized in the interwar period, and saw action in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle of World War II. This latest version of Fuso is the one that has come to War Thunder now. The ship’s main caliber is six twin 14-inch guns, spread evenly across the ship’s deck. Good aiming angles and no less decent ballistic characteristics of Fuso allow him to inflict colossal damage on the enemy.
War Thunder is a free-to-play, cross-platform, massively multiplayer military masterpiece with millions of fans worldwide, allowing players on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Mac and Linux to fight their way through air, land and sea in the same battlefield.
